Marriage Milestones
Marriage Resource have produced these useful leaflets full of wisdom and practical advice.
- Early Disillusionment (or the X-Year itch)
- The First Child
- Role Reversal
- Redundancy
- When the Last Child Leaves Home
- Retirement
Early disillusionment - it used to be called the "Seven Year Itch", but has recently been renamed the "Four Year Itch". Infact it can happen at any time in the early stages of marriage. This leaflet analyses the reasons for disillusionment and shows how this dangerous time can be overcome.
The First Child - The birth of the first child is a fantastic experience, but it makes a big difference to the marriage relationship, to a couple's relationship with others and to priorities in life. Practical, experiential advice on this life-changing event.
Role Reversal -An increasingly common occurence, role reversal has many causes; it may be a conscious decision or it may be forced on a couple by circumstances - relocation, redundancy, etc. Either way, this leaflet gives sound advice on coping with a change that is fraught with potential difficulties.
Redundancy - Redundancy can break a marriage, but it also provides an opportunity to grow together in mutual support in a deeper companionship.
When the Last Child Leaves Home - Most couples with children invest two or three decades in raising them to be confident, competent and independent, and one day they are - and leave. This signals change in life as radical as when the first one arrived - something not often recognised. This leaflet explains why and advises on this change.
Retirement - Retirement is one of the last stages and potential crisis points of a marriage. like some of the others, such as the birth of a child, there is an upside and a downside, but with good preparation this can be one of the happiest times of a marriage.
The leaflets highlight the issues and the ways forward and show how these milestones can be an opprotunity for growth.
