Relationship Education Conference 2007

Conference theme: Relationships: twentyfourseven

The 4th National Conference on Relationship Education (Tuesday 6th February 2007) included keynote speakers and time to network and attend practical workshops covering three streams:-

  • Supporting Prisoners and Hard to Reach Groups - Relationships, the key to breaking out of social exclusion
  • Strengthening Family and Community Relationships - Relationships for life, from childhood to old age
  • Building Effective Relationships in Organisations - Relationships, the foundation for good management

This year Time for Families, 2-in-2-1, and the Relationship Foundation worked together to provide keynote speakers and the three strands of workshops. The event was chaired by Lady Elizabeth Toulson of Time for Families. Integral Events made a major contribution to the conference planning.

Dr Gillian Stamp, Director, BIOSS Foundation :- Social intelligence at work

Dr Indarjit Singh, Director, Network of Sikh Organisations, UK :- The role of faith based organisations in building and strengthening relationships and family

Rt Hon Oliver Letwin MP, Conservative Party :- The importance of Relationships in society and the role of Government

Workshops

Supporting Prisoners and Hard to Reach Groups

Simon Pellew, CEO, Time for Families :- "Working in Prisons - approaches to improving relationships for prisoners, ex-prisoners and their families”

Simon Edwards, CEO Turnaround and Chaiman of Believe :- "Reducing re-offending through mentoring in the community”

Strengthening Family and Community Relationships

Emma Coffey, Manager of 2030vision, a new initiative to 20-30 year olds from the charity, Care for the Family,:- “Relationships Education in the community. Reaching Young people: 2030vision”

David Coltart is the Chief Executive of Explore,:- “Enabling young people to lead the agenda: how young people can take responsibility for their Relationship education through experiential learning.”

Geoff Dench, Senior Research Fellow at The Young Foundation :- "The continuing centrality of the extended family”

Building effective relationships in organisations

Dr Roy Childs, an Organisational Psychologist and Chief Executive of Team Focus, and Alison Myers, an independent Consultant and Facilitator, formerly with Accenture’s change management practice :- “Developing relational leadership skills in organisations”

Dr Michael Schluter and John Ashcroft, Executive Director and Research Director of the Relationships Foundation :- "Looking at organisations through a relational lens”
