Post Can You Help Settle An Argument

I wonder if you could settle an argument between me & my partner. Earlier in the year my daughter who is twelve came home from school with another girls coat & white lace up pumps in her sports bag. When I asked her about them she told me she had seen the coat hanging up & she was the only one in the cloak room so she put it in her bag, the pumps were with it so she took them also. My partner said we shouldn’t let her use them but I said no she could keep them. It was a very expensive looking coat, a deep red full length duffel coat. I let her use it (not for school) but my partner keeps saying she shouldn’t have because it was another girls school coat but I say that’s life the girl will have to use another coat. The pumps I let your use for school; they all look the same.

Re: Can You Help Settle An Argument

Maybe you won't like my advice but I would return the clothing your Daughter came home with. I know if I was the Mother of the Girl who lost this stuff I would be upset at having to go to the expense of replacing it. My Kids have left things at School, but it has always been returned and I know that I'm grateful for that. Not only that what if your Child grows up thinking she can take things which don't belong to her and it's ok. To me it's tantamount to stealing and you have encouraged it. Sorry but I have to side with your Partner on this one.

Post Re: Reply To Babes

Babes losing a coat and some pumps is not the end of the world for the other parent. My daughter didn’t take the coat to be cruel to the girl that owned it. She took it simple because she liked it; the pumps were just with the coat.

I never said she did it to be cruel but you can't just take something which doesn't belong to you just because you like it.

I would have to agree with your husband on this one! They dont belong to your daughter. I think she should have been told to return them the next day?I wouldn't like the idea of my daughter wearing someone elses belongings without permission either. Maybe it is just me??

Re: Can You Help Settle An Argument

Hi there,

Sorry but I agree with the others and probably more strongly. If you left your wallet/purse on my desk you wouldn't be very happy if I kept it, oh and I'll keep whats inside because it was with it. As far as I can see your daughter stole those things and should be very seriously reprimanded. If we all just took things because we liked them we'd be living in anarchy. Children don't know right from wrong they have to be told.

You're setting a bad example. Basicly you're letting her know that it's ok to take what is not her's. Hmmm...that would be stealing, don't ya think?
