hi, i have been with my wife for 15 years and married for 7, we have 2 children aged 6 & 2. My wife has been diagnosed with an active thyroid and has been on medication for 5 weeks, about 6 weeks ago she told me she had no feelings for me and loved me like her brother. she told me she felt empty, drained, trapped and had no energy, she said i needed to give her space so ive been at my parents for 3 weeks, she wont discuss anything with me all she says is she needs space, how much does she want and is the thyroid the problem

Hi Jay
I have an under active thyroid and although it does leave you feeling depressed and tired all of the time it doesn't affect your feelings towards another. It does make you have a very dim outlook on your life though. Maybe she is confusing the way she feels at the moment with her feelings for you, who knows. She certainly won't be thinking straight at the moment. The only way you will find out is once the medication kicks in and she starts to see things differently, which she will but whether that's just her outlook on life or her feelings towards you you can only wait and see. It may be a long road for you as it can take the doctors an age to get the dosage of her medication right. It's trial and error I'm afriad. Hopefully she'll be lucky but it takes time to find the 'magic' pill!
You have to be patient with her as it is a horrible thing to have to deal with. At the moment she'll be feeling at rock bottom. Unloved, unattractive, basically what's the point! It's not your fault she feels that way it's just part of it. Please bear with her through this awful time. It's a serious and horrible condition to have to deal with.
Good luck with it all
Sue

I also have an underactive thyroid, my medication changes every 6 months, it is currently off the chart, my HB said he could always tell if I had forgotten to take them -Im not sure how, as I didn't feel any different.
Thyroxine takes a while to kick in, and can take even longer to get your medication right.
As Sue says it can leave you very low and tired.
Be paitent, though personnelly I don't think you can blame the Thyroid for the way she is feeling, it may have intensified how she feels but the root of the way she is feeling is still there.
