Hi All,
For fear of hijacking Wilmetts thread I decided to start a new one based on the above subject, even now I am, not sure whether this is the right place to post this. Anyway I just wanted to know if anyone who has been through the divorce process has any experiences to share of the many different ways in which to instigate this? I have looked around the web etc but have come up with so much information I feel a little dizzy!!
Has anyone used a fixed fee solicitor? Or gone through one of these online packaged divorces, or even a DIY Divorce? what are the benefits and pitfalls of each one, and what should I look out for?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi,

I have been divorced once. I went to a paper/bookstore and bought a divorce package for $25 and was able to file with that. It was easy, took 4 months to take place and all in all cost me $400. If you're on good terms with your partner, this can be an easy way to end a marriage. My ex H and I are good friends, so that's why we did it this way.

Good luck.. I hope this helps, other than that, I wouldn't know where to look.

Hope

I used a solicitor because we had a Court Order that had to be legally drawn up because of the children etc. My ex hardly spoke with his solicitor and most of the communication/work was done by mine - it was an amicable divorce with the odd argument here and there! I'm not quite sure how the fees mounted up but it was thousands in the end!

I think you can do a cheap DIY divorce if its straight forward. Sometimes things get complicated when there's pension sharing, house equity and kids to discuss. Just ensure you protect yourself because sometimes its worth spending a little extra on a solicitor just to ensure you don't lose out on what you deserve. Perhaps you could just book a couple of hours with a solicitor to get some advice and then do the paper work yourself because this way you won't end up with a massive bill like I did. Looking back now I think I could have done most of it myself but I was scared to just incase I lost out on what I deserved.

I am legally separated and it cost me £2200.00 which included me paying to tansfer the ownership of our house to my ex. This cost £375 of the £2200.00. This is in Scotland.

My wifes bill was over £3000!!!! Revenge is sweet!!

If one of us wishes to divorce without agreement from the other its another £1200!!
