I'm not sure this is the right forum for my needs, but anyway. I need any help or advice in order for my partner and I to get married.
I'm a divorcee and my partner is Russian, currently living in Moscow. We've been living apart for over a year now, both of us making frequent trips to see each other. We originally met in Cyprus in 2003 and are now looking to get married and live in this country.
Unfortunately, I feel compelled to add that this is NOT a marriage of convenience and is totally due to love. I have looked to move to Moscow myself but have hit many barriers, mainly due to not knowing the language (I'm currently taking lessons) My partner is a successful lawyer, fluent in English and most certainly doesn't 'need' to come over here for any other purpose other than to be with me.
Problem is I haven't a clue how to go about getting us married in respect of my partners nationality. Also, me being a divorcee is another issue if we are to get married in a church. I'm not particularly religious and to some extent, neither is my partner but we have to respect her family being Orthodox Christians and their expectations but not to the point where we fail to focus on what is important to us.
So basically, church is a possibility, but to be honest, as long as we're together and married, I don't mind where we do it.
So, is there anyone out there that can offer any help or advice and hopefully point us in the right direction? I will of course be exploring other avenues in my search for help, just thought this would be a good way to start.
Thank you in anticipation
