Hi Gina
We are NOT experts in this area, but from what I understand the real issue is how strictly you wish to folow the teaching of Islam, and traditional Muslim practice.
There is quite a good site here (http://www.2-in-2-1.co.uk/php-bin/jump.php?linkid=127) which gives a lot of background on traditional practice. As far as I can tell it is only traditional for the groom to give a gift (dowry) to the bride. It would appear that gift to the groom are not traditional.
I would have a look at the resources and articles too under our section on Marriage in other faiths (http://www.2-in-2-1.co.uk/chapel/otherfaiths/) as there are some very challenging issues to be faced in hese situations - differences in practice on rings is just the tip of an iceberg!
Good luck
Dave
