Marriage in Church After Divorce
By Rt Rev Michael Scott-Joynt
Review
For many years, the Church of England has been actively engaged in trying to reach a common mind on the question of whether a divorced person with a former spouse still living should be able to marry again in church.
This discussion document comes from a Working Party commissioned by the House of Bishops, under the chairmanship of the Bishop of Winchester, and aims to takes the debate further.
It seeks to bring greater coherence and consistency to the Church's pastoral practice and sets out, for discussion in dioceses, proposals under which further marriages might take place in church in ways which - if the proposals were accepted by the Church - would be consistent with the declared mind of the Church.
